| Petite Carole Joan Crawford (measuring in at just 5 feet 3 inches) was a 20-year-old model and secretary from Jamaica donned a specially-designed, high-necked swimsuit in the finals, designed to make her look taller and the judges were won over by her charm, intelligence and beauty. Carole said that becoming Miss World took away her shyness." Her proud country issued a special issue of more than 3 million stamps in her honour.
