Courtenay Hamilton, a 20 year old classical singer from St Donats in the Vale of Glamorgan is the new Miss Wales.  Courtenay won the title at the competition grand final on Saturday 26 June at St David’s Hall in Cardiff.

Forty-nine young women competed for the crown and the opportunity to represent Wales at Miss World later this year.  Fluent Welsh-speaker Courtenay, has ambitions to follow in the footsteps of Wales’ best loved female singer, Katherine Jenkins.  She is also a crew captain with the RNLI and describes herself as an ‘adrenaline junkie’ who loves adventure.  She said: “I am extremely excited about becoming Miss Wales and hope to use the title to inspire other young people to take life’s opportunities. I’ve already got plans in my head of confidence-boosting adventure camps for kids.”

On the same evening, 21 young men competed for the Mister Wales title. The winner was Andrew Western, aged 22, a health and safety advisor who lives in Cardiff.   Andrew will go on to represent Wales at Mister World.

This year the competitions generated nearly £70,000 for The Joshua Foundation.
