The top half which is fitted is made from mesh fabric embellished with cuts of lace and black rhinestones. The full bodied skirt is made of chiffon and features a slit to create more movement. Although the dress is black, one is able to appreciate the varying texture, transparency and brightness of the different fabrics.
Monica Arguedas is a young Salvadorean fashion designer, who at age 18 moved to Manhattan in order to fulfil her dreams of studying fashion design at the prestigious Parsons The New School for Design.
Her interest in fashion began as a child when she would modify her own clothing. Later on, she became interested in art and history, which is when she began to paint with acrylic oil, and watercolour as well as dabbling in sculpture. Her passion for these diverse artisitic expressions manifested itself through Monica’s own design philosophy: fashion is another form of visual art used to dress the body.
In 2010, while completing her sophomore year at Parsons, Monica Arguedas launched her first swimwear collection and presented it to the public during a fashion show in San Salvador, El Salvador. Given the great success of her first collection, she decided to launch a resort collection in the summer of 2011 where she presented a combination of swimwear and cocktail dresses.
In 2012, after obtaining a bachelor degree in Fashion Design from Parsons, Arguedas moved back to her native El Salvador. In October she opened a one of a kind boutique in the trendiest spot of San Salvador. Her designs have appeared on runways in El Salvador, as well as in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras and Guatemala, to name a few. Monica Arguedas is one of the most emblematic fashion designers of El Salvador, offering the modern woman edgy, chic and versatile designs that can be mixed and matched in several ways.
