20 year old student Rachel De La Fuente will be representing Suriname at Miss World 2013, after winning the national event at the Anthony Nesty Venue in Suriname on the 5th of October.

Government Minister of Education Shirley Sitaldin was in attendance on behalf of President Desi Bouterse to present the awards. Runner up Yarina D’Agrello took home the People’s Choice & Miss Photogenic awards, selected by the audience and official photographer Raoul Neijhorst respectively. 3rd place Jennifer Dijksteel was selected for the best talent of the competition with her belly dancing skills.

The theme of this year’s event was Mother Earth, with the decorations designed by artist Ravi Radjcoomar. The crown presented to Rachel was designed by 2011 winner Stefanie Grace Gentle.

Rachel will be travelling to Indonesia next year for the Miss World 2013 Contest.
