Miss World 1994 Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was recognized for her contribution to the world of arts yesterday, by the nation of France, on her birthday.
Francois Richier, Ambassador of France to India, presented Aishwarya with the honour of ‘Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters’ (Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres), the second highest civilian French Honour.
“This prestigious distinction comes in recognition of her invaluable contribution to the world of cinema and the development of Indo-French cooperation in cinema, art, and culture,” said the French embassy upon presenting the award.

It is truly overwhelming.” She went on to say “also, I take this opportunity to thank everyone who I have worked with as they made it possible for me to have such a glorious career.”
