Miss World in Haiti
06 March 2013
Delegates from the Miss World Organisation, Including Reigning Miss World Wenxia Yu, will be travelling to Haiti next week to oversee the developments of several projects funded by The Miss World Organisation.
Initiated in 2009, the Beauty with a Purpose projects in Haiti centered around the mountainous area of Pestel. With the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti in 2010, a heightened sense of emergency and desperation descended upon the country, which extended the aims and increased the efforts made by Beauty with a Purpose.
The projects have benefited tens of thousands of individuals within the country, and next week Miss World CEO Julia Morley with several other dignitaries will be visiting the project sites to see how they are progressing and to talk to the teams on the ground to discuss what future action needs to be taken.
Miss World Wenxia Yu, Mr World Francisco Escobar & Claudine Book (Miss World USA 2012) will be accompanying Mrs Morley on the week-long visit which will see them travelling to the town of Pestel, visiting health clinics, local leaders, water treatment facilities and local organisations working for the same goal – a healthier Haiti.
Thriving Villages is an organisation working out in Haiti to offer aid and assistance to the poor communities within Pestel, including access to clean water, and education. They will be working alongside the Miss World Team throughout the visit.
Speaking ahead of the trip, Julia Morley said “I’m looking forward to visiting Haiti, it’s a country that deserves as much help as possible. We are visiting Haiti to see the fantastic work that Thriving Villages along with the water missions are doing.”
