INTERVIEW
Tell us about your job/studies
I did my high school studies at Colegio Colombo Britanico in Cali (my home town) and graduated in 2006. In this same institution I did the International High School program and obtained a certificate. Right now I am pursuing a undergraduate degree in graphic design (I'm on my fifth semester) at University in Bogota, our nations capital. Regarding to my job experience, I have worked in several places, I can recall some of them like: - Summer job at my family's company (dedicated to thereal state business), where I did some basic office work. - Before I graduated I worked during the labour week (my school institutionalized this week in order for their students to understand and learn from a job experience before graduation) at Colgate Palmolive Corp.
How are you preparing for Miss World in South Africa?
Besides my physical training at the gym, beauty sessions, and catwalk training I am also gathering information and doing a lot of research about my country, so I can show the World (or at least those who participate at this honourable pageant show) the beauty of my country. I want to be an ambassador of my country to the world, I want to spread the news of what a wonderful, beautiful and safe country Colombia is. Within the organization in Colombia I am also doing some social work, especially with kids who are our nations future. I am working right now on a beautiful project that is called Kangaroo Mother, it consist of carrying the child in your breast, replacing a incubator, and my child has been abandoned by her mother that doesn't have enough money to rise her up. I' m giving her all that she need right now, from clothes, to milk. This has touched my heart, and convinced me that by helping others I can grow up to be a better person.
What's your daily routine?
As Miss World Colombia I wake up in the morning, go to the gym, then prepare myself for whatever the organization has planned for me. For example, one normal day I can go and visit some social organizations, have and interview with my countries media, visit a city or a town, etc... every day is a new different day for me. An activity that has reached my heart is the Kangaroo Mother Program, which I recently started. During 2 hours I have the chance to carry a beautiful baby girl, during this time I can sing to her, hug her, feed her, and off course give her a lot of love. With my family and friends I am gathering some clothes and milk for Katherine (who I named).
How do you feel about travelling to South Africa?
I can't deny my happiness. Besides visiting a new place that I've never been to, I can't wait to see it's people, experience their culture and enjoy the magnificence of their landscape. I am also excited to know all the beautiful women who will represent their country in the pea gent, and honoured to represent my country, Colombia.
Which elements of Miss World are you most looking forward to?
Probably the culture exchange, I know we all humans are different, and getting the chance to experience a little of other cultures is very fulfilling for me. Learning from others and different places (in this case Johannesburg) makes you a better person, more educated, accessible and most important open-minded.
Do you have a message to the other Miss World contestants?
I would like to say to them that we shall all face this challenge with responsibility and in the most proper way, because we represent our country and our people who deserve respect. Is our chance to smile to the world and let them know we are not only beautiful but also a good element for our society, a good example.
What do you think are you qualities that youwill bring to the competition?
I am a sincere, loyal, friendly, cheerful person with deep moral values. All the girls can be sure that I am not only their competition but also they can find a friend in me who can give them great moments to remember.
What individual talents will seperate you from the other contestants?
Creativity, painting skills and sports, three things that rule my world and desires.
What would it mean to you to do well at Miss World?
I am already doing well, I earned a place in South Africa, I have the chance to represent my beloved country. Doing better is a matter of time, attitude and self confidence.
What is your favourite landmark?
My favourite landmark here in Colombia is San Andres Island, it has 7 blues, the most amazing beaches and a different culture, the rastafaris, they still speak patua. On the other side, Saint Petersburg, has captivated me the most, I can't believe their architecture.
What is the one thing you cannot live without?
Music, its the joy of my life, it sheers me up, it connects me with the world.
Who do you most admire?
As a graphic designer to be, Mark Ryden and Andy Warhol are my favourite illustrators and great artists.
Who has inspired you most in your life?
My father has been the one that inspired me most, because he has struggle for his family, for his wealth all by himself, also because he has been good to everyone. And one of the most important reasons is that what everything he projects he accomplishes, giving a good example of life, as a father and as a human.
