Ivian Lunasol Sarcos Colmenares, was born in Venezuela. Her mother, Mary Bridget Colmenares, a housewife, was of a Spanish Nationality. Her Father, Juan Maria Sarcos, was born in Yaracuy and was a professional trader. Ivian, who was the youngest of 13 children, was nicknamed Lunasol by her mother.

Ivian was made an orphan at the age of eight years old, resulting in her moving to a convent school run by the ‘Sacred Heart of Jesus’ Congregation of Sisters in the city of San Carlos, Cojedes state. Her stay at the boarding school made her into a responsible young woman. Being a model student with values built up in the faith of God she considered everyone around her in the convent as family. Ivian excelled in her studies and at the age of 15 she began an academic career, studying at the Graduate Institute of Agricultural Technology IUTEAGRO whilst working to fund her education. Ivian is still in regular contact with the Nuns from the convent and often sends them gifts.

In 2007 Ivian set her sights set on the capital. With very little money, Ivian travelled in search of a new career. She began working in Caracas, commuting daily from her home in the Valles del Tuy. In 2008, she was accepted into the Universidad Central de Venezuela UCV and moved to Parroquia El Valle in the capital.

Entering Miss Venezuela

In late 2009, Ivian was asked to enter the Miss Venezuela contest. She was given the sash to represent the state of Amazonas in the Miss Venezuela 2010 final. She went on to win - and as a result she represented Venezuela in the Miss World 2011 contest held in London.

Crowned Miss World 2011

‘My aims remain the same; I hope that God blesses me so that I can continue to help those in need. Of course I also want to have a career, be an independent woman and in the future have a family and give to my family what my parents were unable to give to me.’
