MISS WORLD GIRLS HIT THE BEACH WITH INTERNATIONAL MEDIA

Chinese and international media filled the sun terrace of the Crowne Plaza Sanya Beach Club when the three Miss World fast-track finalists held a press conference there.  They were joined by China and hotel General Manager Otto Kurzendorfer.

Together for the first time, Miss World Beach Beauty Puerto Rico, Miss World Sportswoman Northern Ireland and Miss World Top Model Norway presented their crystal trophies to the media.  They told of their feelings at winning their awards, of how their families were excited to hear the news, and the reaction from the media in their home countries.

Puerto Rico talked about the importance of the Miss World experience for contestants and herself: “The Miss World contest is not just about physical beauty but also beauty of the mind and personal development.”

Northern Ireland mentioned that “winning the sports fast track was an unforgettable experience - the highlight of my month in China and a fun day together with all the contestants showing great team spirit. My family back home are so proud – they are coming to the final.”

Norway joined the others in thanking the people in China, Sanya and at the Crowne Plaza for their hospitality. “Hearing my name as Top Model was a mix of excitement and shock that I had actually made it through to the final. First I thought it was a dream but when they put the trophy in my hand I realised it was for real.”

China spoke of how honoured she was to represent the host nation of Miss World 2010, a role that comes with a degree of additional expectation.

Otto Kurzendorfer expressed the pride of his hotel team at hosting the Miss World contest for the second time.  As the official home of Miss World in China, the Crowne Plaza Sanya is a perfect place to meet media and friends from overseas, as well as providing ideal facilities for rehearsals and choreography.  “It is an honour for us to host the Miss World contestants and we look forward to staging the Talent Show this week and the Miss World Coronation Gala on Saturday,” he said.

After the press conference, the girls joined a large group of other contestants on the sand for an impromptu game of beach volleyball.  Media lined the net to photograph and film the girls playing ball and laughing with the many hotel guests enjoying a day at the beach.  Some girls preferred to cheer on their roommates while relaxing on sun loungers, sipping fresh coconut juice prepared by the attendant Crowne Plaza waiters.

With the morning sun already making its presence felt, it was time for the girls to cool off.  What better excuse to have fun splashing around in the waves.  Again, hotel guests and locals took the chance to have photographs taken as a memory of a great day on the beach.

The Miss World Beach Beauty Top 20 contestants then lined up for a press call on the steps of Yalong Bay Square.  Standing in the shadow of the imposing obelisk recognising the gods and forces of nature, the contestants gave their best pose for the horde of press photographers who had followed them the short distance along the beach.

One lucky young chap even managed to attract the attention of the girls.  The toddler was called over by the contestants and Puerto Rico picked him up for a cuddle.  One lucky little boy who will remember this day for ever.
