22nd of November 2011 Interview with Saint Barthelemy on Talent Performance |
Johanna Sansano of Saint Barthelemy did incredibly well in the Miss World 2011 Talent Round this year. She finished in the Top 10 finalists which meant she performed at the Beauty With A Purpose Charity Dinner on October 31.
Johanna’s performance was a collaboration of hip hop movement, rap music and contemporary dance.
‘As long as I can remember, I have always dreamt about being a dancer. I started with ballet and modern and when I was 15 years old, I decided to try hip hop. I fell in love with the energetic dance. At 17 years old, I went in New York for a month and stayed in this amazing town. I spent all my days from 8 AM to 11 PM at the dance school! When I came back home, I started to learn about hip hop culture and I found out that the genre is inspired by blues, soul and classical music. It is true that I wasn't born into a hip hop culture but that is why I try to show another side of hip hop - to make people understand that it is not a culture beneath others. Hip hop is inspirational. The songs are not only about cars, money or girls. Rappers talk about ambition, respect, love, rights, inequality, politics and hope. I am a journalist and I work on a lot of subjects but I really would like to host a TV show about hip hop. I am so proud to be a finalist of the Miss World talent competition with rap music!’
