It’s not just the soccer teams arriving in South Africa for the World Cup, the Miss World team has officially arrived too. The team consists of Miss World representatives from the World Cup competing nations - not to mention Miss World herself, Gibraltar’s Kaiane Aldorino.
The Miss World representatives are officially the 33rd team at this year’s soccer World Cup. The young ladies arrived in Johannesburg today to support Johannesburg Tourism Company under the theme of Johannesburg Rocks, sharing the World Cup experience in the city of gold with millions of football fans.
The Miss World representatives will be based in the heart of the action - Melrose Park one of the designated Johannesburg fan zones. The Joburg Rocks campaign includes a series of events such as the Festival of Africa which embraces African music, dance, food and history.
Australia’s Sophie Lavers said “I’m unbelievably excited to be here. I can’t wait to learn some African dancing, it’s very different to ballet!”
England’s Laura Coleman commented “I told everyone here I was a reserve for the national team! The atmosphere’s electric, everyone’s got vuvuzelas - apparently they are South Africa’s secret weapon.”
Beauty With A Purpose is the cherished theme of Miss World and embodies the true spirit of the title by helping disadvantaged children all over the world. While in South Africa the representatives will be visiting Orange Farm, a deprived area of Johannesburg. They will meet around fifty children from the Tebogo Home for Handicapped Children. Founded ten years ago the home was the recipient of a much needed donation of specialised medical cots from Miss World’s Beauty With A Purpose programme earlier this year.
