This week the Queen dispatched an official delegation of election observers from the Commonwealth to ensure fair play at the UK General Election. Former Miss World Lisa Hanna was the only representative from the Caribbean region included in the eight-person committee.
After winning Miss World in 1993, Lisa pursued a successful television career in the United States. She relocated back to Jamaica where she became a Member of Parliament in 2007 representing the People’s National Party in South Eastern St. Ann constituency.
This week’s mission, organised by the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and the Royal Commonwealth Society creates an opportunity for Commonwealth parliamentarians, election officials and civil society representatives to gain insight into the political campaign and UK electoral processes.
Whilst in the UK Lisa will shadow a UK MP for a day, attend training on UK electoral procedure and a conference at the UK Electoral Commission. She also observed polling stations on voting day.
