Miss World 2009 Kaiane Aldorino awarded Honor

Miss World 2009 Kaiane Aldorino was awarded the honorary Freedom of the City of Gibraltar accolade at John Mackintosh Square before a buzzing crowd.

At 6pm on the September 15, 2011 Gibraltar’s Mayor Julio Alcantara conferred the Freedom of the City to Kaiane on behalf of the people of Gibraltar as the Royal Gibraltar Regiment regaled the crowd with bugles.

Wearing Gibraltar’s National Day colours, Kaiane received the award with much grace and emotion, describing the honour she felt receiving the Freedom of the City of Gibraltar and happiness to be able to share the moment with her fellow people.

In Mayor Julio’s Alcantara speech, he noted it “the most pleasant conferment of all”.

Kaiane was joined by her family and friends who watched with great pride and joy as Kaiane, the first woman and youngest recipient of the award, gave an emotional speech which she described as, “the most important speech I have ever had to make”.

Since its inauguration in 1962, only 10 individuals and 11 organisations have been given the accolade which is considered the highest civic honour in Gibraltar.

Kaiane also received the Gibraltar Medallion of Honour for outstanding personal achievement being crowned Miss World 2009 and its positive effect on national pride for the people of Gibraltar.
