ORDOS WELCOMES MISS WORLD TO INNER MONGOLIA

Horseman and tribal warriors greeted Miss World contestants on their first day in the thriving city of Ordos in Inner Mongolia.  

After a drive into the outskirts of the district, the young women were honoured by a breath taking performance of history come to life, when their attended an official Ordos welcome ceremony held at the Da Qin Zhidao Cultural Tourism Spot - an impressive gateway at the start of the ancient trade routes.

Brightly costumed dancers, ancient warriors and horsemen put on a colourful display in honour of the contestants, inviting them to leave their messages of thanks on a giant board of national flags.

Scotland said: “I feel like I’ve walked back into history.  This is one of the most impressive scenes of my life.  I can’t wait to tell everyone back home in Scotland about Ordos.”

After further displays of local folklore and music, the young women competing for the title of Miss World 2010 walked the start of the silk route.

Cyprus said:  “I was excited to be part of Miss World but really didn’t expect to see so many incredible things.  In the past few days I’ve experienced places I never dreamed I’d see.”

In the evening,a sumptuous dinner was held at the world’s largest Mongolian tent, accompanied by traditional Mongolian dance, string instruments and throat singing.  After dinner the contestants took to the stage to show their thanks by singing the Beijing 2007 Olympic torch relay anthem.  They then went outside to enjoy a surprise fireworks display and dancing around a ceremonial bonfire.
