30th October 2010 Continental Queens of Beauty Announced

Families, celebrities and Sanya dignitaries joined contestants at the Miss World 2010 Coronation Ball to celebrate the culmination of a month of travels and experiences.

Earlier in the evening, United States had been crowned the 60th Miss World in a glittering two-hour live TV spectacular from Sanya, China.  Kentucky teenager Alexandria Mills was chosen out of 115 beautiful and talented young women who took to the stage for the 60th Miss World Final.  She was joined on stage by first runner-up Botswana and second runner-up Venezuela.

As up to one thousand guests sat down for a sumptuous gala dinner in the grand ballroom at the Crowne Plaza Sanya, there was one last official duty to be done before the party could get into full flow.  That was the unveiling of the five Miss World 2010 Continental Queens of Beauty.

As the crystal trophies were brought to the stage, the fortunate five were named as:

Miss World Africa – Botswana
Miss World Americas – United States
Miss World Asia-Pacific – People’s Republic of China
Miss World Caribbean - St. Lucia
Miss World Europe – Ireland

“I was over the moon when I won the Talent Show but being named Miss World Europe is just beyond my dreams,’ said Ireland.  “I’m so proud to have my family here to see this moment.  It’s a wonderful end to an amazing month.”  

St Lucia added:  “I didn’t expect this at all.  I’m just so happy to have met so many good friends this month.  Now let’s get this party started!”

Seven previous Miss Worlds from across the decades were among judges at the final and were on hand to enjoy the girls receive their glory.

Multi-Grammy nominated saxophonist Dave Koz, global chart-topper Shayne Ward and Puerto Rican singing sensation Carlos Aponte were also at the party, having performed on stage at the Final.

After the award ceremony, the DJ kicked in and the girls partied until the early hours, enjoying a well-deserved night of fun with family and new friends.
