31st October 2010 International Press Congratulate Miss World 2010 |
International media were among the first to congratulate Miss World 2010 Alexandria Mills when she fronted a morning press conference at the Crowne Plaza Sanya. Miss World, from the United States, was joined by first runner up Botswana and second runner up Venezuela.
“I am still a little amazed at what has happened to me,’ she told the media. “It is sinking in more now but when I spoke to my family last night, it was an incredible feeling. My family got together to watch the Final on TV and my mum called me right after.’
“She was so excited and there was shouting and celebrations in the background. I went online to speak with friends and suddenly everyone was there waiting for me. I couldn’t believe how many people were congratulating me at once. They even managed to bring my two dogs to the camera.”
Alexandria, 18, from Kentucky, United States, was crowned the 60th Miss World World (www.missworld.com) at the Beauty Crown Theatre in Sanya, China. She was one of 115 beautiful and talented young women to spend one month touring China in advance of the Final.
Miss World 2009 Kaiane Aldorino placed the famous blue crown on the head of the new Miss World 2010 as she took up her deserved position on the silver throne, flanked by first runner-up Botswana and second runner-up Venezuela.
The glittering two-hour live TV spectacular launched the 60th anniversary of Miss World 2010. Seven previous Miss Worlds from across the decades were among the judges.
Botswana told the media how she will be traveling to many countries with Miss World 2010. “It was such exciting news to me,’ she said. “To travel alongside Miss World from the United States is such an honour for me. Botswana is just a small country and I am so proud to be standing here representing my country in this way.”
Venezuela will also join the party at some events when Miss World visits her region. “It has been such a wonderful experience meeting all these 115 new friends,’ she said. “It’s exciting to know that I will be meeting up with some of them again, especially the new Miss World. She is such an amazing girl.”
