Dr Tonoya Toyloy-Williams, Miss World 2004 Scholarship Winner Graduates

Message from Tonoya Toyloy-Williams - Miss Jamaica World 2004

Winning the Miss World Scholarship has meant so much to me. Words cannot express the value of being able to pursue my dreams of making a difference in the health care of Jamaicans especially for the poor.
I remember the moment as if it were yesterday, feelings of disbelief, surprise and heartfelt joy washed over me in the second that it was announced that Miss Jamaica was the winner of the Miss World Scholarship! ? I felt like I was floating as I collected my award, grateful, I was now well on my way to fulfilling my purpose, to achieving a post-graduate education, one that would lay the foundation for a career in helping others.

It was an intense three years of my life, but in December 2009, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Florida. In whatever I do, I must do my best and I worked through the challenges. At the end of it all, I achieved Masteries for all the clinical components of the Doctoral programme, graduated with a GPA of 3.70, and quite unexpectedly I was the recipient of the “Most Outstanding International Graduate Award” and the “Most Outstanding Research Project Award” for the Class of 2009.

For 2010 and beyond, there is much to do and I am ready for the challenge. To the Miss World Organization, thank you for the tremendous gift you have given me, thank you for your generosity to women and the many charitable causes across the world and I wish you continued success for years to come. To all the young women who represent their countries at Miss World I just want to say that you should always pursue your dreams, for with passion, determination and hard work they can come true!

Yours sincerely,
Dr. Tonoya Toyloy-Williams
