1st March Alexandria and Emma talk about their time |
Miss World Alexandria Mills and Miss World Africa Emma Wareus have been reflecting on their time in Trinidad and Tobago, with new pictures from their stay.
Upon their arrival in Tobago, they received a warm welcome from steelpan drummers and traditional carnival dancers. Alexandria said, "We were entertained by music and dance the whole time during our stay. I love music, and it was amazing to experience a culture that embodies music so much." A farewell dinner in Tobago also provided a musical highlight for Emma, as the choir sang African songs: "It almost brought me to tears reminding me so much of home. The way they dressed, sang and dances was so wonderful."
Among the attractions they visited, a glass bottom boat ride along the Buccoo Reef (a protected national park) to Nylon Pool was a highlight. A natural shallow pool in the middle of the ocean, it was a wonder of nature that impressed them both, as did the Argyle Waterfall. Emma said it was her first time in a rainforest and that "the scenery was lovely and breath-taking".
Their visit also took them to the a new hospital currently under construction with new top healthcare facilities, and to the Princess Elizabeth School in Port of Spain, Trinidad: "The children were so happy and excited to see us. We really brightened their day", Alexandria said.
Trinidad also gave Miss World and Miss World Africa a chance to see some of the incredible carnival costumes in action at the Kings & Queens Carnival Show, where the extravagant outfits wowed them both. It was also a chance for Miss World to meet former Miss World Giselle Laronde, who won the title representing Trinidad and Tobago in 1986. And Alexandria was thrilled: "She was so sweet, like I was seeing a family member - it feels like being part of one big Miss World family."
