Miss World 2010 starts here!

The Miss World 2010 journey begins in Beijing, with contestants set to arrive on 1st October. Miss World has always received a warm welcome from China’s capital city, with many memorable moments over the years: from 2003, when contestants braved the snow climbing the Great Wall of China, to 2007, which saw the Miss World representatives at the centre of preparations for the Beijing Olympics the following year, singing the official song for the Games “Light the Passion, Share the Dream”, right up to the official announcement of the 60th Miss World Final in June this year.

The 2010 Miss World contestants will be arriving on an auspicious occasion, as 1st October is the National Day of China, marking the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. Fireworks are set off throughout the country, kick-starting a week of national holidays, and Beijing will of course be the focal point of the celebrations.

Beijing is home to some of China’s most important landmarks, including the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and the Summer Palace, and having played host to the 2008 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, it is increasingly becoming an important destination for top international events. As the starting point for the 60th Miss World’s China experience, Beijing is perfectly placed to begin the festivities.
