17th November 2011 US Virgin Islands' Talent Performance Interview |
Esonica Mictecia Veira represented the U.S Virgin Islands in the Talent round this year and resided in the top 10 finalists. Esonica performed a clever dance routine in the style of Michael Jackson. We asked her to comment on her talent:
‘I have been dancing from about six years old. I began as a student at the Caribbean Dance School and then joined the Virgin Islands Institute of Performing Arts, studying jazz and hip-hop, but my favourite type of dance has always been hip hop. In high school, my friends and I formed a dance group called X-theticals Dance Group, then later I joined another group called Affinity Dancers, and we specialized in hip hop.
I have always loved Michael Jackson and I have spent many hours listening to his music and watching his videos. I decided that I would learn his dance moves. The first time I performed a Tribute to Michael Jackson was when I entered the Hal Jackson US Virgin Island Talented Teen Pageant. I would later go on to win the International finals with my performance. In dedication to a wonderful entertainer, it was my pleasure to dance before the Miss World audience!"
