22nd March Singing national anthem at Euro 2012 qualifier |
Courtenay Hamilton, who represented Wales at the 2010 Miss World Final, will sing the national anthem before kick-off for the Euro 2012 qualifying match between Wales and England taking place on Saturday 26th March. The classically trained singer was first runner-up in the Miss World Talent Final at the 60th Miss World which took place in Sanya, China last October, and said that she "cannot wait" to perform. The game will be played at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium and is an opportunity to showcase her voice in front of a sold-out audience with thousands of spectators, as well as millions of viewers at home. The game is particularly significant as it will also mark the 100th time the two sides have played each other.
Courtenay said: “It was all out of the blue. They asked me to sing at a previous match but I was in China for the Miss World finals and then they got in touch about Wales v England." Speaking about her future ambitions, she added: "I’d ideally like to make it as a singer. I’m trying a crossover genre which is contemporary singing with a classical arrangement, and that’s ideally what I’d like to end up doing.”
