New 3D blockbuster movie based on classic story

Miss World 2007 Zhang Zilin will star in a new big-budget adaptation of the classic Chinese story 'Journey to the West'. 'The Monkey King', directed by Cheang Pou-soi, will be the first in a planned trilogy of films, and Zilin was promoting the film during her time in Cannes. The first artwork depicting her character has been released, with Zilin portraying the goddess Nuwa, who according to ancient mythology created mankind and is tasked with repairing the Wall of Heaven. She will become Nuwa on screen through a combination of make-up, costume and special effects.

Zilin underwent a week long training regime with two dancers to choreograph her movements. The intensive film shoot involved a long schedule of wirework with Zilin suspended in the air, performing a range of spins and turns to create the impression of flight.

'The Monkey King' features action star Donnie Yen in the title role, alongside Hong Kong actors Chow Yun-Fat and Aaron Kwok, and will be released in cinemas in summer 2012 in IMAX 3D.
